Story of Appreciation

One young academically excellent person went to apply for a managerial position in a big company.

He passed the first interview; the director did the last interview, as he will make the last decision.

The director discovered from the CV that the youth's academic achievements were excellent all the way, from the secondary school until the postgraduate research, never had a year when he did not score.

The director asked, "Did you obtain any scholarships in school?"

The youth answered "none".

The director asked, "Was it your father who paid for your school fees?"
The youth answered, "My father passed away when I was one year old, it was my mother who paid for my school fees."

The director asked, "Where did your mother work?"

The youth answered, "My mother worked as clothes cleaner."

The director requested the youth to show his hands. The youth showed a pair of hands that were smooth and perfect.

The director asked, "Have you ever helped your mother wash the clothes before?"

The youth answered, "Never, my mother always wanted me to study and read more books. Furthermore, my mother can wash clothes faster than me."

The director said, "I have a request. When you go back today, go and clean your mother's hands, and then see me tomorrow morning."

The youth felt that his chance of landing the job was high. When he went back, he happily requested his mother to let him clean her hands. His mother felt strange, happy but with mixed feelings, she showed her hands to the kid.

The youth cleaned his mother's hands slowly. His tears fell as he did that. It was the first time he noticed that his mother's hands were so wrinkled, and there were so many bruises in her hands. Some bruises were so painful that his mother shivered when they were cleaned with water.

This was the first time the youth realized that it was this pair of hands that washed the clothes everyday to enable him to pay the school fee. The bruises in the mother's hands were the price that the mother had to pay for his graduation, academic excellence and his future.

After finishing the cleaning of his mother hands, the youth quietly washed all the remaining clothes for his mother.

That night, mother and son talked for a very long time.

Next morning, the youth went to the director's office.

The Director noticed the tears in the youth's eyes, asked: "Can you tell me what have you done and learned yesterday in your house?"

The youth answered, "I cleaned my mother's hand, and also finished cleaning all the remaining clothes"

The Director asked, "Please tell me your feelings."

The youth said, "Number 1, I know now what is appreciation. Without my mother, there would not be the successful me today. Number 2, by working together and helping my mother, only now I realize how difficult and tough it is to get something done. Number 3, I have come to appreciate the importance and value of family relationship.

The director said, "This is what I am looking for to be my manager. I want to recruit a person who can appreciate the help of others, a person who knows the sufferings of others to get things done, and a person who would not put money as his only goal in life. You are hired."

Later on, this young person worked very hard, and received the respect of his subordinates. Every employee worked diligently and as a team. The company's performance improved tremendously.

A child, who has been protected and habitually given whatever he wanted, would develop "entitlement mentality" and would always put himself first. He would be ignorant of his parent's efforts. When he starts work, he assumes that every person must listen to him, and when he becomes a manager, he would never know the sufferings of his employees and would always blame others. For this kind of people, who may be good academically, may be successful for a while, but eventually would not feel sense of achievement. He will grumble and be full of hatred and fight for more. If we are this kind of protective parents, are we really showing love or are we destroying the kid instead?

You can let your kid live in a big house, eat a good meal, learn piano, watch a big screen TV. But when you are cutting grass, please let them experience it. After a meal, let them wash their plates and bowls together with their brothers and sisters. It is not because you do not have money to hire a maid, but it is because you want to love them in a right way. You want them to understand, no matter how rich their parents are, one day their hair will grow gray, same as the mother of that young person. The most important thing is your kid learns how to appreciate the effort and experience the difficulty and learns the ability to work with others to get things done.

how time flies

I can’t believe it when my sister told me that my niece (Althea) will start her school year next week. What? My comment was…it’s too early! Not yet! Really? We have not done any thing productive this summer. I haven’t had the chance to teach her how to paint and swim. How time flies! It’s already June! The summer already ended.

June is not my favorite month. First, the school year starts this month. For me, it means expenses and traffic. Forgive me for my shallowness but that’s what I feel. Hmp! If the school starts again, it’s equal to heavy traffic especially during rush hour. And of course, expenses, you know! Hahaha! Right now, Althea and her mom is back on school again. Actually, I’m not telling her but I’m proud of my sister Leah because she decided to do something in her life again aside from being a mom. She studied again. I actually don’t know what was the course she took (bad ko noh?), basta it’s a four year course. Yun na! So add it up to her two years in STI where she took Information Technology, she studied six years! Tagal! She beat me there coz I studied only five years for ECE. And that time I felt like I can’t wait to graduate, start earning to help my family and definitely start my life. Now, after working for nearly seven years, I’m simply tired and wanted to study again. Now how’s that for “circle of life”? hahaha

Actually, I’m thinking of studying again but how can I do that when I don’t think I have the means? Do you know any scholarship for people who want to take Masterals? Haayyy…. I don’t know…. Our company does not have that kind of program. So if you want to expand your knowledge, you have to do it on your own. On your own expense and all… Tell me if you‘re aware of any programs like that, ok?

Second, I don’t like the month of June because it’s the start of rainy season here in the Philippines. Who wants to go to work wet? And almost everyday there’s always a huge chance of being stranded because of flood and traffic, huh?

But!

I can love the month of June…if I can hear the ‘bells’.
Tan tan ta nan… Tan tan ta nan… 

questions and more questions

How can I tell you that I’m getting bored with our relationship that goes nowhere? Why does it feel like all the parts in my life is so stagnant…nothing is moving…nothing is growing…nothing is changing. Nothing.

I want change. I want improvements. I want growth. I want love. You promised me… and I’m still waiting. I want to ask you questions. Questions you don’t want to hear. Even questions that I don’t want to ask. But still…

Pathetic-ness

How pathetic am I?

I don’t what will happen if he will know this. Well I hope he won’t ever. Don’t want to confuse him or give him doubt of how I feel. It’s just that it happens, with no intention or what so ever.

After all these years, it’s kind of all coming back to me. I just saw him for this one brief moment. Just one brief moment and woosh! It’s like I’m back in my teens and drooling over him again. Am I not over him yet? This made me wonder because I felt a little quiver when I saw him but it’s no wonder because I considered him my first love. And that(!) almost made me believe that first love never dies. I even don’t want to admit it to myself, but he’s indeed, my first love.

Now to answer my pathetic-ness, I am indeed. Because after all this time, after all the things that happened, after everything, I should have NEVER felt that quiver, not even a little tingle. NEVER!

How pathetic!

Ano Kaya Ang Feeling ng Payat?

How does it feel like to be thin?

For the last few days, I've been asking this question to myself again and again for no particular reason. It's not because I have this epiphany to loose weight or something like that. No, not that. It's like a I have this sudden longing to know how it feels like, to be thin.

Hey, is this what I've been waiting for? The turning point of my life where I realize that I'm so fat and then I will have the courage and decipline to loose weight or I'm just in one of my reflection, "ask-your-self" help tip?

Hmmm...

Identity Courage not Crisis

When I've heard that Rustom Padilla, a former heartthrob of Philippine Cinema got his new identity as Bebe Gandanghari, I want to admit that he got me impressed with his courage to stand for what he truly is and for what he truly wants. It's not easy to accept your true self if everything around you is hindering you from doing otherwise.

What I wanted to know from Rustom is, I mean Bebe (pronounced as Bibi) on how he did it. From accepting himself and showing to the people the 'true' him. I also wanted to know what are the reactions of his family, specially his brothers and his mother. And most importantly, I wanted to know if he's happy right now...if he found the happiness he's longing / looking for.

As for me, what he have is not an identity crisis, no it isn't, not at all, it is an identity courage. Believing and loving yourself. The spirit to improve yourself and make changes happen. You only have one life to live. Be happy.

losing my fangs

Why do I feel like I'm being bullied? Am I loosing my back bone? Why do I feel like as if even my friends are bullying me? Am I losing my confidence? Do I need to show my fangs more? I know I'm not like this before. I hate this feeling…It's not me. This is bothering me for quite sometime now, somehow I feel like I've to change something inside me immediately. As in now!

What to do? What to do?

Or I'm back to being my paranoic self and imagining things again?

Looking forward to 2009!!!

I always do this. Yearly as in. As if I could keep up all the times that I failed/succeeded with my New Years resolution. But this is time I want it to be different and do something that I can achieve but with great impact. As if it's like..."less force, more impact"

1. I want to do something that I've never done before.
It's been my dream to do exciting stuff in this lifetime. As of this moment, I only wanted to do three things, and when I'm through with it, I'll plan three more. YES! First, I want to do bungee jumping. Ever since I saw the one of the movie specials from National Geographic channel, I've wanted to do it. I've received comments about me, my weight and the rope not capable of carrying me. Ha-ha! Second, I want to do sky diving. Even just once! It's like something that I'm not sure I will have the guts to do but I've been wanting to do all this time. Third, is scuba diving. I love the life under the sea. It's so amazing to see and imagine being there. I've tried snorkeling, and if I can borrow Edward's line from the movie Twilight, "it's like a tofu, but it I'll never be fully satisfied."

2. Learn to play musical keyboard and give Alex a CD with me playing.
He gave me this casio musical keyboard yearssss ago and still I have not learned how to play it. I tried to self study but time is against me. If I wanted to give the CD as my anniversary gift to Alex, I will do it. Even to enroll in music class. Courage and time management!!!

3. Be accountable to my friends and people.
I feel like I'm not that accountable to my friends. Sometimes, I set myself invisible in YM.
(sorry guys...) See? But that's when I'm at work. Tsk! Tsk! Tsk! Bad Ruthie... So this time, I'm always available, but my status now is either Kain Muna or Blogging All Along...hehehe

4. Go to places I've never been to.
I often do this, almost every year. At least once. I go to place/s I've never been to with my friends from L2S_MOC. I hope this year we will go to Caramoan Island in Camarines Sur. But how about out-of-the country stuff?!

5. Loose 20-30 lbs this year.
Now this is something I have to really work on. No extra rice when eating. I'll try to do this gradually. Attend exercise classes and no more excuses.

6. Diligently attend church service.
This is something for my soul. But since I failed to attend consecutive Sundays of the week, I was having a hard time going back. I'm shy to my cell leader and to HIM. But I'll try to go back soon!

7. Avoid complaining about life and love...and sex. Except work to my boss (it's my revenge!)
I hate grouchy people, but I can't help being one. I'll try my best not to and act instead of grouching except when it comes to work and my boss. I somehow feels good when I do that to my boss. There's a fulfillment in a different...weird way. You know!

8. Be a more loving daughter, sister and girlfriend.
There's nothing wrong when you're always loving more. The world needs it! All it needs is LOVE.

9. Will not miss birthdays of my friends and love ones.
I hate this part of my weakness. I tend to forget birthdays. I really hate it. Solution? To have a reminder, either on the Calendar or Outlook.

10. Earn more. Spend less.
Hey! I've been doing this since I can't remember when...but sometimes I tend to spend more than I earn. Should I give examples? Hahaha. I know people close to me will tell me that I deserve it. Do I?

11. Learn how to swim and drive.
It's more for survival than anything else...

12. Get married?
This is something beyond my powers...

Hazy Dream

I've dreamt of him again last night. Yes, it's something wonderful and great; and no it's not something like Stephanie Meyer's dream that lead her in writing the Twilight Saga. It's just a simple and selfish dream of mine. All mine.

Now, how can I share this dream without sounding so pornoic (if there's such a word)? So let's just say that I'm in the middle of a dreamless sleep and I don't know why I dreamt of him and the fact that that we are making love. We are in the middle of this passionate sex. We're both sweaty and panting heavily. We cannot stop touching each other and continously kissing very hard. You can see clearly from our faces that we are having the time of our lives. The picture that we created is something that everyone would envy. I, even envied myself.

Then abruptly I saw myself somehow changed but still lying in my back, still sweaty, still panting, still with flustered face, but no, I'm not with him anymore. I'm doing differently.

Very different. I'm giving birth to a baby...

My dream is so vivid. I can see his face, the raw emotion, the twinkle in his eyes. I can taste his sweat. I can feel his touch, his kiss, and his warmth. The intensity of it surprised me. I really thought I was real, that I was with him and I even wanted to see our baby...my baby.

When I woke up, I've realized two things. First, I'm ready to step up my relationship with Alex, and second, I'm ready to have a baby.
